Madison City Lake Rules and Regulations
General Rules
1. Everyone is required to maintain a speed of not more than 25 mph on all roads in the lake area.
2. No vehicles, whether tagged or untagged, are to be operated on the dam. Vehicles are restricted to roadways only.
No untagged off-road vehicles including trail bikes, ATVs, or motorcycles may be used without special permission of
the City Council.
3. Pet must be kept on a leash.
4. The use of any firearms is strictly prohibited, except in the boundaries of the Madison Gun Club area.
5. Any person creating a fire for legitimate purposes shall extinguish it before leaving the premises.
6. The use of profanity or disruptive behavior will not be permitted and may be grounds for expulsion.
7. No paper, boxes, cans or refuse of any kind shall be left upon the grounds or deposited in the water of the lake.
No glass bottles or containers of any type will be allowed. All lake users are responsible for removing their own litter.

8. The use of alcoholic beverages is prohibited. Refusal to submit to a drug and/or alcohol test
administered by a law enforcement officer will be grounds for automatic expulsion from the lake
premises.
9. No radios, loudspeaker systems, or electronic equipment that can be heard at distances of 100 feet or more, can be
used without special permission of the City Council.

10. A resident is a person who lives within the city limits of Madison, or who pays ad valorem taxes to the
City of Madison and/or USD #386. There will be no exceptions to this definition.
11. The lake facilities are available on a first-come first-serve basis. No area of the lake, including the camping and
electrical hook-ups, and shelter houses, may be reserved for any person, without special permission of the
City Council.
12. The brush pile at the lake is for use by city residents to dump leaves, brush, and limbs. (No plastic is allowed in
the brush pile.)
13. Persons using the lake should be prepared to take cover during severe weather. Monitoring radio station KVOE
(1400 AM) of Emporia or television channel 12 is recommended. There is not a storm shelter at the lake, nor is
there a siren to caution individuals of severe weather. The City is not liable for individuals who do not heed the
warning to use common sense during high wind, lightning, hail storms, heavy rainfall, fire out-of-control, tornadoes,
or severe thunderstorms.
